Why our puppies are different…

The Briar Patch difference, why our French Bulldogs and Pug puppies are exceptional

health tested parents

Our journey begins with happy, healthy French Bulldog and Pug parents.  Our dogs are family members living alongside us in our home in a stress free environment achieved through lots of play time, a huge outdoor area with pet grass and puppy playground equipment.  They have an ample variety of chew toys and stuffed toys helping to keep them happy and engaged.  We feed our dogs the best in nutrition as research has shown that nutrition and a stress free environment, such as ours, plays a vital role in the health and temperament of the newborn puppies.  We health test all of our French Bulldogs and Pugs using Embark DNA testing to ensure our parents are healthy and free of genetic issues, for their breed, that could be passed on to their offspring.  It is very important that our parents are the best example of what a French Bulldog and Pug should be in order to produce the best puppies possible.

Pregnancy & whelping

At Briar Patch Frenchies and Pugs, our females are given the very best care throughout their pregnancy which includes Vet visits, ultrasounds, extra nutrition, top quality pregnancy supplements to ensure the best for her and her growing puppies, and extra TLC during her pregnancy to ensure her comfort so our moms are prepared to bring their puppies into the this world.  As their due date nears they are moved into their whelping area to settle in and we make sure they have every convenance to be comfortable.  During the whelping our moms receive assistance as needed, and more importantly given love and support so that she never feels alone.

empowered puppy curriculum

Beginning at 3 days old, our puppies begin ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction).  This program continues through day 16which includes daily weigh-in and gentle handling.  ENS improves performance, strong adrenal glands, tolerance to stress, resistance to disease, and cardiovascular performance.  ESI improves nose awareness, confidence, and brain activity.

Beginning at 3 weeks a more advanced program using The Empowered Puppy Program set forth by Jeanette Torrey with 4E Kennels.  We bring the “10 Step Puppy Massage” daily and increase pressure weekly.  The 10 step handling exercises ensure our puppies are exposed to various type of handling, sensations, and touch.  this exercise makes handling you puppy for nail trims, vet visits, or grooming, etc.  The exercises include touch around the collar, tummy, down the back, inside the mouth, ears, nose, eyes, tail, and feet.  Also at 3 weeks we begin socializing exercises exposing the puppies to different sounds, sights, textures, items to climb on, run through, and move.  This empowers the puppies and sets them up to conquer physical and mental challenges they face every day.  This builds our puppies nerve strength and confidence as well as strong problem solving skills.  We provide our puppies a stable and enriching environment for their first 8 weeks of their lives during the most critical development period which sets up your puppy for success from the very beginning.

The last stage of the curriculum is Temperament Testing where we conduct a puppy aptitude evaluation on each puppy individually as set forth by the Empowered Puppy Program.  We focus on 12 important temperament traits to ensure you get a puppy that fits you and your lifestyle as well as honoring who the puppy s so that they are placed in a home that best suits who they are.

Last, but not least, All our puppies are microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations and deworming.  We also begin work with them on potty training, all aspects of grooming, and crate training giving the new puppy family a head start on important training for their new family member/.
